01Does OSHA require eye wash stations?

02What is ANSI Z358.1 and why does it matter?

ANSI Z358.1 is the American National Standard for Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment. It defines requirements for flow rate, water temperature (tepid, 60–100°F), activation, placement (within 10 seconds / approximately 55 feet from the hazard), and minimum flush duration (15 minutes). Compliance with ANSI Z358.1 is the accepted way to satisfy OSHA's eyewash facility requirement.

03How much does eye wash station installation cost?

04What is the difference between a plumbed and self-contained eye wash station?

Plumbed units connect directly to your water supply and provide continuous flow for 15+ minutes without refilling — they are the preferred solution wherever a water line is accessible. Self-contained units are portable and require no plumbing connection, but must be refilled and inspected weekly per ANSI Z358.1. We can install either type and will recommend based on your facility layout and hazard locations.

05What is tepid water and do I need a mixing valve?

Tepid water is defined by ANSI Z358.1 as water delivered between 60°F and 100°F. Water that is too cold can cause shock or hypothermia; water that is too hot can accelerate chemical injury. If your facility's cold water supply runs below 60°F or your hot water supply exceeds 100°F at the outlet, a thermostatic mixing valve is required. We test your supply temperature during the site assessment and install a mixing valve if needed.

06What documentation do I receive after installation?

We provide written installation documentation suitable for your OSHA compliance file and safety records. This includes the unit type and model, location, supply line and drain connection details, flow test results, and temperature verification. Your safety officer will have what they need for any OSHA inspection.

07Do you provide annual eye wash station testing and inspection support?

Yes. ANSI Z358.1 requires that plumbed eyewash stations be activated weekly (typically by facility staff) and inspected annually. We offer annual inspection visits to verify flow rates, check water temperature, inspect components for wear, and update your compliance documentation. Ask about a service agreement if you have multiple stations.
